A Descriptive Case Analysis of Instructional Teaching Practices in Finnish Preschool Classrooms
2013
This study examined the diversity of teaching practices to illuminate the qualitative variety of instructional teaching practices among preschool teachers. Further, teachers' self-rated educational goals were explored to complement the multifaceted nature of preschool teachers' instructional teaching practices. The study was carried out as a case study. The cases were used to describe the qualitative variety of Finnish preschool teachers' instructional practices in authentic classroom situations among groups of 6-year-old children. Observational data of four preschool teachers were analyzed according to the principles of qualitative content analysis. Three themes of teachers’ practices were identified, which described the key practices through which teachers influence children’s participation, namely, through discussion and conversations; by referring to shared rules and managing the classroom; and through demonstrating pedagogical sensitivity and understanding tow…
Drawing Cartoon Strips as a Learning Tool in Fostering the Learning of Titration in Pre-service Chemistry Education
2021
In this study, static visual displays of titration created by the university-level pre-service chemistry education students was investigated. The aim for the students was to learn the theory of titrations, using self-prepared cartoon strips with supportive texts. Attention was paid to the titration cartoon strips students made which were suitable for both learning and teaching purposes. The basis of this study was students’ own drawings: students observed and visualized the titration process, and built their own representation of it. Simple models were created using pencil and paper. The goals were to determine how students regard the learning tool, how drawing cartoon strips helps their le…
Les pratiques pédagogiques des enseignants universitaires :
2012
In France, some studies (Boyer & Coridian, 2002; Clanet, 2001) have highlighted the heterogeneity of teaching practices at the university, especially in the first year, but don't analyze accurately the effects of this variety on the students. However, these practices are not without consequences for them (Bireaud 1990; Bellat Duru, 1995; Galinon Menelec, 1996). So it is to this reflection that is dedicated the research presented in this article. Firstly will be presented studies in France and abroad about the description of practices. The second part will focus on the effects induced by them on students. Finally, we will present an innovative viewpoint of research, on the relationship betwe…
Changing society - changing language learning and teaching practices?
2012
Swift and unexpected changes have taken place in society over the past few decades: globalisation, increasing mobility, labour market changes and fast technological development have transformed society, making it multicultural, multilingual and multimodal. Education – and here above all language education – is at the centre of most societal activities and should be able to react to the changes quickly and flexibly. However, the changes in education are slow, and the views of the parties involved in the various levels of education as to the changes and their consequences do not always correspond. The purpose of this article is to outline the field of language education in the midst of the cu…
Les pratiques pédagogiques en première année universitaire: description et analyse de leurs implications sur la scolarité des étudiants
2014
In France, there is little research on university teaching and focusing specifically on teaching practices. This present research aims to explore this concept in two different ways. The first part focuses on the description of the practices implemented by teachers during first-year university lectures. Using in situ observation of lecture practices of 49 teachers from five programmes, we first show that teachers’ practices mostly rely on traditional methods as defined by Bru (2006). However, we show a variety of practices among teachers. The second part of this research updates our knowledge of the implications of these practices on student studies. 734 freshmen from these sectors were inte…
Prácticas y condiciones institucionales para el desarrollo de la docencia en universidades iberoamericanas

The case studies correspond to six universities in: Argentina, Spain, Mexico and Venezuela 2. Were identified the common challenges and the differentiated needs faced by the development, with quality, of university teaching. It was concluded that the context is a predominant variable that impacts the exercise of the teaching function and that this is the most important academic activity with an impact on the quality of higher education.

These philo sophical novels (written by Lipman, author of the curriculum) present different themes and are aimed at specific age groups. The Philosophy for Children method has not been used only with chil dren, but it is now widely used in various contexts of adult educa tion, in the analogous form of the Philosophy f…
